Singapore proposes to boost work safety

Tripartite Strategy committee comprises

  1. Ministry of Manpower (MOM),
  2. National Trade Union Council (NTUC), and
  3. Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF).

The recent recommendation to enhance workplace safety unveiled during Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) conference 2018 includes (31 Aug 2018):

  • Procurement criteria to weed out errant contractors from public-sector projects
  • Sharable information regarding companies safety performance to guide decision-making
  • Insurance premium based on safety track record to reward good companies and serve as punitive to errant ones
  • WSH role taken seriously by company directors

International Advisory Panel proposes

  • Includes workers’ health, i.e. to reduce illnesses caused by work environment
  • Expand the 40 reportable occupational diseases
  • Support health promotion initiatives
  • Adopt tech to improve WSH
