Sr Minister of State for the Environment and Water resources Amy Khor announced the NEA grant zero-waste initiative (TNP, 23 Jan 2019 and The Straits Times, 22 Jan 2019).

The initiative targets packaging, food, electrical and electronic wastes. Singapore is considered as second largest producer of e-waste. There is a need to recycle such waste.

Singapore aspires to adopt ‘circular economy’ where resources are recycled or repurposed.

Currently, the challenge faced by recycling effort is the lack of waste segregation that fouls recyclable material.
