These are the three areas of useful attributes, in order to be successful. You can compensate for a weakness in an area with strength in another.
IQ
Intelligence quotient (= how many times), IQ aims to measure intelligence. This is defined as academic or cognitive (knowledge). There is a test, first developed by Alfred Binet (1857 – 1911) and Theodore Simon (1873-1961), usually consist of logical reasoning and vocabulary. This expanded to verbal, math, visual/perceptual, spatial, classification, and pattern recognition.
- Verbal tests vocabulary, read, write and communicate. It includes proverb, analogy, classification, and antonym.
- Math tests arithmetic, geometry, equations.
- Spatial tests perception and cognition of space. It includes object assembly, block design, digit symbol/code, pic arrangement, pic concept, pic completion, and matrix reasoning.
- Visual/perception tests visual, perception and cognition. It involves grouping relatedness, and identify oddballs.
- Classification tests grouping relatedness based on criteria.
- Logical reasoning tests analytic and deductive skills, i.e. model/hypothesis-driven (cf. inductive = generalize). Knowledge required in cause-effect relationship.
- Pattern tests analytical and abstraction skills. Patterns are found in ideas, words, symbols, and images.
IQ can also be divided into four test areas, e.g. verbal understanding, perceptual reasoning, working memory, processing speed (ref. 2)
EQ
According to Howard Gardner, there are 5 categories of EQ.
- Self awareness. It is ability to recognize an emotion as it happens to you. Knowing will help us manage emotions. Self aware also builds on self confidence.
- Self regulation. It is to control emotions. This involves console, reconciliation, control, honest, conscientious, adaptable, and innovative.
- Motivation. It comprises drive, commitment, initiative, and optimism.
- Empathy. It helps us in service line, developing people, leverage diversity, political awareness, understand people.
- Social skills. It is interpersonal skills. It helps in influencing, communication, leadership, change catalyst, conflict management, building bonds, collaborate/ cooperate, and team capabilities.
Technical expertise
It is the experience to do something. It can involve fixing a car, handling machine, programming, practise medicine and manage.
