The 5 Cs of communication

This was mentioned in PMI PMBOK and RMC (Rita).

  1. Correct (meaning)
  2. Concise (efficient use of words)
  3. Clear (targeted/aimed)
  4. Coherent (relevant)
  5. Controlled (presentation of information)

Correctness requires grammar and spelling. Concise depends on wordcraft (clever use of words). Clear means ‘straight to the point‘. Coherent is to be relevant to the aim/target of communication. Controlled is about tailoring the presentation of information.

In RITA and PMBOK, it suggested flow of words/ideas.

  • Flow is an ambiguous term. It means information flow that has a rate (such as word count over time). But can information be measurable in flow rate?
  • Example from PMBOK v6 states that flow can be graphic (picture say a thousand words??) or summary (less than 300 words or in point form???).
  • What I believe is that flow means tailoring the presentation information, i.e. wordy, graphical or conceptualized.
